Clinic Owner

Kimberly Alquist OTR/L, CHT

Kimberly Alquist, Clinic Owner

Kimberly has over 20 years of experience in pediatric occupational therapy and with hand therapy in both the pediatric and adult populations. She is a University of Washington graduate, with affiliations in pediatrics, psychiatry, physical disabilities, and orthopedic hand rehabilitation. She has worked in school settings, private practice, and acute orthopedic hand surgery rehabilitation.

She uses an eclectic approach involving her training in modalitites, splinting, myofascial release, acute surgical rehabilitation, overuse syndrome intervention, NDT, SI, functional vision development, and oral-motor development. Kimberly helped standardize the ETCH (Evaluation Tool of Children Handwriting). She is also a Certified Kinesiotaping Practitioner. She specializes in custom spliniting, positioning and casting. Her interests include the study of the upper extremity kinematics in relation to development which lead her to a post-graduate independent study involving dissection of anatomy at the University of Washington.

Hand Therapists

Kari Gunsolus, MOT, OTR/L

Kari graduated with a Master of Occupational Therapy degree from the University of Washington in 2011 after receiving her Bachelor of Science in psychology from Santa Clara University in 2005.  Kari’s clinical rotations included outpatient pediatrics at Providence Children’s Center in Everett, acute care at Seattle Veteran’s Hospital in Seattle, and outpatient hand therapy at Edmonds Hand Therapy in Edmonds, WA.

Kari specializes in hand, wrist, and elbow management.  Her professional interests include fractures, cumulative trauma injuries, post-surgical management, and fabrication of custom splints.  She is an active member of American Occupational Therapy Association, American Society of Hand Therapists, and Washington State Hand Therapy Study Group.

In her free time she enjoys photography, painting, traveling, playing volleyball, and spending time with friends and family.

Kristin Rosen OTR/L, CHT

Kristin has enjoyed practicing occupational therapy within the specialty of hand therapy for the past 12 years. After graduating from the University of Washington in 2000, she had the pleasure of beginning her career with Virginia Mason Medical Center’s Hand Surgery Group. She spent 5 years at VM before moving across the country to Connecticut. There she sat for her Certified Hand Therapy exam in 2006 making her a clinical specialist in rehabilitation in upper extremity orthopedic care from the shoulder to the tips of the fingers. For the next 6 years she advanced her skills working for Orthopaedic Specilaty Group alongside 2 hand surgeons and 16 general orthopedic surgeons. Kristin enjoys treating numerous diagnoses including fractures, tendon transfers/repairs, dupuytrens disease, and trauma. She thrives on helping patients understand their diagnosis, the rehab process, and how to maximize their function through exercise and participation in their activities of daily life.

Kristin, her husband, and two young children have recently returned to the pacific northwest and are loving be back! In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her family, friends, traveling, volunteering, baking, and just being crafty!

Jeanette Klaber, MOT, OTR/L

Jeanette graduated with a Master of Occupational Therapy degree from the University of St. Augustine-San Diego in 2012 after receiving her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from the University of Minnesota in 2008.  Jeanette’s clinical rotations included outpatient/inpatient adult and pediatrics at Kadlec Regional Hospital in the Tri-Cities and outpatient hand therapy at Spokane Occupational and Hand Therapy in Spokane, WA.

Jeanette is excited to be returning to BPHT where she had previously worked as an aide prior to completing her occupational therapy degree. She will be working in both the pediatric and hand therapy clinic settings with the ultimate goal of providing individuals and families the tools to participate as independently as possible in activities that bring meaning to their lives. Jeanette is very interested in aquatic therapy, as she has experience as a diving coach and adaptive swim lesson instructor.

In her free time she enjoys swimming, gardening, playing with her dog, and learning how to use power tools as she remodels her house.

Maggie Trask, OTR/L

Maggie is originally from the Midwest and graduated in 2002 with a degree in Occupational Therapy from Saginaw Valley State University in Michigan.  She moved to the Seattle area from Chicago, IL in 2011.

Maggie has been practicing Occupational Therapy for the past 10 years, all in orthopedic settings for the upper extremities. Her experience in treatment has ranged from the hand to the shoulder.  Maggie is skilled in the fabrication of custom splints to treat a variety of hand, wrist, and elbow injuries.  Her approach focuses on functional activity within the patient’s therapy program.

In her free time, Maggie enjoys playing the piano, as well as participating in outdoor activities such as running, triathlons, hiking, and skiing.  She is looking forward to exploring the Pacific Northwest.

Occupational Therapists

Christopher Goodman, OTR/L

Chris graduated from Temple University, Philadelphia in 1999 with a degree in Occupational Therapy. He started his career in schools and moved on to AI duPont Hospital for Children gaining experience in Sensory Processing Disorder and hand therapy. He developed a pediatric hand therapy group to treat children with nerve injuries and fractures in a kid friendly environment.

Finding his way out West he gained experience in multiple settings working with adults and children. His passion has always been working with children and has worked most recently in a public school system in Monterey County, California, where he was able to develop a Kinder Fine Motor Screening Tool that is still being used to identify students with difficulties early on.

He has gained a wealth of experience in Sensory Processing Disorder, Autism, Handwriting difficulties, Developmental Coordination Disorder, CP, Social Skills Groups, Muscular Dystrophy, genetic disorders, nerve injuries, fractures, splinting for the upper extremity, pediatric and adult brain injury rehab. Chris is also trained in the Alert Program and the Integrated Listening Systems (iLs).

When not at work, Chris enjoys spending time with his wife and twin daughters. Interests include landscape photography, cooking, camping, fishing and training his Australian Shepherd Einstein.

Adrienne Dienst, OT/L

Adrienne Dienst

Adrienne has been practicing pediatric Occupational Therapy in the greater seattle area since 1979, after graduating from the University of Washington. Her experience includes school-based, clinical-based and private practice with children ranging in age from infancy into their teens. Her specialities include pediatrics with a strong knowledge of Sensory Processing Disorders and Neurodevelopmental Therapy Techniques. She enjoys disabilites from handwriitng difficulties to leaning and physicall challenges such as diagnoses of CP, Autism Spectrum Disorders, Attention disorders and Neuromuscular Disorders. Adrienne is trained in “Social Thinking.”

She enjoys focusing on mentoring new parents and supporting families with extraordinary challenges. In her spare time, she travels to Florida and is an avid tennis player and high school girls tennis coach.

Jennifer Vandecar, MOT, OTR/L

Jennifer Vandecar Oct 2011Jennifer graduated with a Master of Occupational Therapy from the University of Puget Sound in 2008. She has a strong interest in animal assisted therapy and as part of her master’s project created a resource manual entitled Animal Assisted Therapy: A Unique Treatment Modality. Prior to this Jennifer completed a Bachelor of Arts in Human Development with a minor in disability studies at Washington State University. While in school Jennifer spent time volunteering with children with and without disabilities in preschools, swimming programs, and a reading with dogs program. She has worked in an acute care hospital focusing on rehab for people with orthopedic injuries and surgeries. Jennifer has experience working with children with sensory processing differences, fine motor delays, and varied neurological conditions. She is trained in the Alert Program and the Integrated Listening System (iLS).

When not working, Jennifer enjoys training and showing her 3 dogs in Conformation, Obedience, and Agility Trials.

Marisa Hun, MOT, OTR/L

Marisa graduated from Western Washington University with a B.A. in Sociology, and later from the University of Puget Sound with a Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy. She is also the primary author of an educational website for parents of children with Autism, offering strategies to help children gain independence with their daily routines. Before becoming an Occupational Therapist, she worked as an Employment Consultant to teenagers and adults with a variety of cognitive, physical, and psychiatric disabilities.

She was motivated to pursue a career in Occupational Therapy after watching her cousins blossom as a result of their therapeutic experiences. Coincidentally, they received therapy at Bothell Pediatric and Hand Therapy, inspiring Marisa to pursue a career promoting creative approaches to treatment, and community involvement and independence for people with disabilities. She is passionate about personalizing therapy to meet each person’s individual needs.  When not working, Marisa enjoys painting, walking the dogs, listening to music, and drinking coffee with family and friends.

Roxanne Fernandez, MOT, OTR/L

Roxanne graduated from the University of Washington with a B.S. in Biology and recently completed the Occupational Therapy Masters program. While in school she volunteered at a birth to three center, interned in the Edmonds School District, and acquired training through the Child Development Clinic at the Center on Human Development and Disability in Seattle. Roxanne is also trained in the Sequential-Oral-Sensory (SOS) Approach to Feeding Program.

Her interest in pursuing a career in occupational therapy was driven by her desire to promote the quality of life for others. She enjoys using her creativity to develop treatment plans that suit her clients unique strengths and challenges. Roxanne believes that establishing positive relationships with her clients enhances their therapeutic outcomes.

Outside the clinic, Roxanne spends much of her time with her family and friends. She loves to stay active, playing tennis, basketball and flag football, snowboarding, and running. She likes to spend quiet time drawing, painting, reading, and watching movies.

Tatiana Gorsky MS, OTR/L

Tatiana graduated from Russell Sage College in New York with a Master of Science in Occupational Therapy, and a Bachelor of Science in Therapeutic Studies with a concentration in Art Therapy. She has worked in pre-schools, an outpatient clinic catering to all ages, a residential high school with emotionally challenged adolescent boys, and a private school with ages ranging from 3 to 12 years old. She enjoys working with a diverse population, including sensory processing, genetic, and neurological disorders, as well as fine motor and social skill delays. Tatiana is trained in the Alert Program and “Social Thinking.”

Tatiana firmly believes that in order to motivate children to strive towards their potential, one must use creative and innovative treatment approaches building off of each child’s personal strengths. In each treatment session, she tries to include many different ways to reinforce the same skill for optimal learning.

Outside of work she enjoys watercolor painting, reading, dancing, and spending time with family.

Physical Therapists

Margaret Bell, PT, DPT

Margaret Bell

Margaret graduated from the University of Colorado Denver with a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree after receiving her B.S. in Pre-Physical Therapy from Montana State University-Bozeman. While attending school, she volunteered for programs for children with disabilities, including a swimming group and en evening playgroup. She also volunteered for many years as a tutor for school-aged children.

Margaret’s clinical rotations included an outpatient pediatric clinic, where she treated children of all ages with a variety of conditions, and outpatient adult clinics that specialized in the treatment of orthopedic and neurological conditions. She believes that making therapy fun is a great motivator for reaching goals, so consistently works to implement activities that child enjoys.

In her free time, she enjoys spending time outside exploring Green Lake, hiking, and searching for seashells on the beach. She also enjoys scrapbooking, playing the piano, and spending time with her wonderful friends and family.

Heidi Lee, PT

Heidi has over 8 years of experience in pediatric physical therapy.  She graduated from the University of Toronto with a physical therapy degree in 2001 after receiving her B.S. in Neurobiology from McGill University in Montreal, Canada. Heidi has worked in a hospital setting in Victoria, British Columbia; the school setting for San Francisco Unified School District; in addition to both in and out-patient settings at Seattle Children‚Äôs Hospital. She has a passion for early intervention and working with the birth to pre-school population, helping children achieve their best function at home, school, and communities. Heidi understands that family centered care produces the best outcome and enjoys working together with families to help children reach their goals. She believes in life-long learning and challenges herself to grow in the field of pediatric physical therapy through continuing education and mentorship.

Heidi is happily married and is a busy mom to 3 wonderful young children.  During her free time (if she can squeeze it in!), she enjoys doing classical ballet, running, learning to garden, and biking on the Burke-Gilman Trail with her husband.

Janine Huang, DPT

Janine graduated from the Doctorate of Physical Therapy program at the University of Washington in 2010 after obtaining her bachelor of Science in Biology. She completed a clinical rotation in Bellevue School District working with children from pre-school up to middle school and outpatient rehabilitation focusing on orthopedic and neurological conditions. She enjoys the challenge of making physical therapy fun while working on functional meaningful goals.

Her interests include hiking, snowboarding, traveling, scrapbooking.

Speech Pathologists

Dara Schmeck, MS CCC-SLP

Dara received a Bachelor of Arts in Honours Speech Sciences from the University of British Columbia (2002) and a Master of Science in Communication Disorders from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (2004). Since that time, she has worked in private pediatric clinics as well as a neurodevelopmental center.

Dara enjoys working in a broad variety of areas, including childhood apraxia of speech, stuttering, early intervention, and feeding, and Dara is falling in love again with alternative and augmentative communication. She has specific training in PROMPT (Prompts for Restructuring Oral Muscular Phonetic Targets) level 1, the Beckman Oral Motor Protocol, the Sequential-Oral-Sensory (SOS) Approach to Feeding Program, verbal behaviour techniques, and is a member of the DynaVox DREAM team, as well as having received training from Prentke-Romich representatives. Dara strives to involve the family and collaborate with other professionals to provide the best care possible for her patients, and believes that, above all, therapy should be FUN!

In her free time, Dara enjoys spending time with her husband and dog, visiting family and friends, reading, baking, and her newly-acquired hobby, crocheting.

Kelsey Face, MS, CCC-SLP

Kelsey received a Bachelor of Arts in Speech and Hearing Sciences from Washington State University in 2009 and a completed her Masters of Science degree in Speech-Language Pathology in 2011.

Kelsey has worked in clinics around the Seattle area providing speech and language services to children ages 1 to 18 with a variety of communication difficulties including autism spectrum disorder, specific language impairment, articulation impairment, children using augmentative and alternative communication, language delay, traumatic brain injury, and a variety of genetic disorders. She also worked at the University of Washington Medical Center assisting with evaluation, treatment, and funding of augmentative and alternative communication devices. Kelsey believes in approaching treatment from a functional perspective and implementing activities important to the family and child. Kelsey is also trained in “Social Thinking.”

Kelsey is a native to Washington State and grew up in Issaquah, Washington. Currently, she lives in Ballard and enjoys spending time with friends and family. Kelsey enjoys being active and loves to go hiking, camping, boating, and swimming. She also enjoys traveling, reading, writing, and scrapbooking.

Janna Gallagher, SLP

Janna Gallagher, SLP

Janna received her Bachelor of Science degree in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology from Brigham Young University in 2009, and her Master of Science degree in Medical Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Washington in 2012.

Janna has worked in outpatient and inpatient settings, providing speech and language services to children aged 1-18.  She has experience working with children with speech and articulation disorders, expressive and receptive language disorders, autism spectrum disorders, traumatic brain injury, and children who use augmentative and alternative communication.  Janna also completed an internship with Seattle Children’s Hospital in the Inpatient Rehabilitation unit, giving her unique experience in evaluating and treating acquired neurological disorders in children aged 1-18 and working on a multidisciplinary team. She believes in a functional approach to intervention that includes the family and other providers in order to provide the best care and support lasting progress.

Janna moved from California to Seattle in 2010 to attend graduate school. Since that time, she has made the Pacific Northwest her home.  In her free time she enjoys spending time with her close friends and roommate, baking, cooking, and going out to eat and to the movies!

Kali Glynn MA, CCC-SLP

Kali graduated from Western Washington University in 2005 with am MA in Speech-Language Pathology. Her professional interests are in the areas of articulation/phonology, social language, early intervention and apraxia of speech. Pursuing life-long learning in the field of speech-language pathology is of importance to her. She is trained in PROMPT for levels I and II and will soon be completing an introductory course in SCERTS. Along with tailoring therapy to a child’s needs and interests, she believes family involvement and training is essential to a child’s therapy program. In her spare time she loves to watch movies, go to the beach and play with her two cats!

Abbie Parris, MS, CCC-SLP

Abbie completed Bachelor degrees in Linguistics and Speech and Hearing Science before receiving her Master’s in Medical Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Washington in 2011. 

Abbie has worked in local clinics, providing services for children with a variety of communication difficulties including Autism Spectrum Disorder, developmental delay, motor speech impairment and Childhood Apraxia of Speech, Receptive and Expressive Language delay, cognitive communication disorders, social skills, and reading impairment.  She is trained in PROMPT (Prompts for Restructuring Oral-Motor Phonetic Targets), the DIR/Floortime approach, “Social Thinking,” and the Integrated Listening Systems (iLs). Abbie believes in tailoring therapy to the individual and using a child’s strengths and interests to maximize progress in therapy. 

Outside of work, Abbie enjoys spending time with her husband, and chasing their turtle around the house.

Christy Price, MS CCC-SLP

Christy Price

Christy graduated with a Master of Science degree in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Washington in August of 2004. Since graduating, she has worked in a clinic setting with the pediatric population serving children with a wide range of communication difficulties including autism spectrum disorders, articulation/phonological disorders, receptive and expressive language disorders, language delay, apraxia, auditory processing disorder and dyslexia. Christy believes in providing services that are individualized to the child’s specific strengths and weaknesses and sensitive to the goals of the family. She is a native of Washington State and enjoys the many, varied activities of the area. Outside of work, Christy enjoys reading, spending time with family and has recently become interested in kickboxing to stay active.

The Vision Clinic

Alan P. Pearson, OD MEd PhD

Dr Pearson works with children (6 months and up) and adults wanting to improve their visual skills through therapeutic activity. He evaluates and prescribes appropriate tools and goals then counsels and coaches the patient/family toward achievement. He works collaboratively with the Clinic’s occupational, physical, and speech therapists.

Dr Pearson has over 16 years clinical experience evaluating and treating visual and perceptual dysfunctions impacting learning, development, reading, dyslexia, attention deficits, strabismus, amblyopia, and visual integration. He is involved with research and development associated with curriculum development, interdisciplinary collaboration models, and integrative treatment approaches.

In his free time, Dr. Pearson enjoys outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, backpacking and skiing.

April Holland, OVT

April graduated from Central Washington University in 2006 with B.A. in Biology. Her experience comes from working at a vision therapy center for 4 years. During this time she focused on pediatric care, forming a comprehensive model of vision. She has experience working with children and adults, reinforcing visual skills as a basis for education and occupational development. She enjoys using her creativity as a tool to motivate and gain success with each patient.

April loves to be outdoors, hiking, biking, climbing and skiing. She also values spending time with family and friends and is a recent convert to good cooking and baking.

Clara graduated from Western Washington University in 2010 with a BA in Communication Sciences and Disorders. She moved to Seattle with the goal of earning her Master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology from the University of Washington. Clara is passionate about improving the lives of others whether it is helping someone schedule a therapy appointment or coaching a high school athlete to the state meet.

In her free time, Clara is a high school track and cross country coach and sings in the Seattle Women’s Chorus.

Olga, Billing Manager

OlgaOlga has 20 years of experience in accounting, 10 of which were working as a senior accountant. She completed the Billing and Coding program at Cambridge College. Olga’s hobbies are cooking, reading, hiking, and traveling. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends.

Kaitlin Meeks, Marketing Director, Public Relations Coordinator

Kaitlin graduated from the Evergreen State College in 2009 with a B.A. in Cultural and International Studies. Her academic interests included early childhood education, cultural anthropology, and community outreach. She plans on attending graduate school in the future, but for now she is excited to be apart of the BP&HT team. A true northwestern, Kaitlin loves the outdoors and staying active. She accomplished the 2010 Seattle-To-Portland bike ride with her boyfriend and roommate – her dad rode as their support on his motorbike! When she’s not out exploring new back-roads or biking, Kaitlin enjoys relaxing with friends and family.

Denise Pelton, Public Relations Director, Intake Coordinator

Denise has 23 years of administrative experience in the dental industry in San Diego, California. She recently moved to Washington to apply her skills to the medical field and is looking for a new adventure. It is her love of children that has brought her to Bothell Pediatric and Hand Therapy.

It is her hope to create a second Big Animals for Little Kids non-profit volunteer organization in Washington, just like the one in San Diego. She feels it is very important to give back to her community. “There is nothing greater than knowing you were able to put a smile on a child’s face and create a magical moment they will never forget!”

Helene Hanson, Aide Supervisor and Volunteer Coordinator

Helene has over 28 years of experience in Early Childhood Education, with 10 of those years working with special needs children. She also owned and operated a child care facility for 15 years. During that time, she maintained a high level of knowledge through extensive continuing education. Helene and her husband, Ernie have been happily married for 29 years and have two grown children, Michael and Michelle. In her spare time she likes to kayak, garden, work on her log cabin, (on Whidbey Island), and spend time with her family and friends.

Tina Diaz, Bookkeeper

Tina Diaz

Tina accomplished her Bachelor’s in Accounting form the University of the Phillipines in 2000. She moved to LA where she excelled in her position until 2007. After getting married she moved to Seattle and worked in a retail and wholesale business and came to love the northwest. She joined Bothell Pediatric in June and enjoys the medical field helping people. She is married to a wonderful man from Italy. Together, they love being active in the outdoors, camping, hiking, and backpacking.

Clara McDade, Billing Coordinator

Clara has over 20 years of experience in all aspects of accounting. She loves dealing with numbers.  Clara graduated from Edmonds Community College with an ATA in 2004 in Business Management and, in 2009 with Medical Information Technology-Billing Specialist. She is also a Notary Public and bilingual (English/Hungarian). 

In her time away from work, Clara enjoys cooking and loves to spend time with her husband and twin boys.

Tia

Tia is pursuing a degree in healthcare and business administration. For the past seven years, she has been working with and caring for special needs children. Tia is a proud mother of two children. In her free time, she enjoys reading and writing poetry, and loves to be active outdoors.

Aides

Kathryn Louthain

Kathryn is a junior at the University of Washington Bothell. She is pursuing a degree in community psychology with the ultimate goal of earning a Masters degree in Occupational Therapy. In her spare time she enjoys drawing, relaxing, and spending time with family and friends.

Shelly Moore

Shelly graduated from the University of Western Washington in 1991 with a B.A. in Business Administration and Human Resources Management.  For the past 15 years, Shelly owned and operated a flower shop but sold the business in 2009. In 2011, she returned to school with the goal of becoming an Occupational Therapist.

Shelly is a native Washingtonian, born and raised in Kirkland.  Happily married with 2 sons, 12 and 14, she has been active in Cub Scouts and the PTA.  In her free time, she enjoys gardening, walking, traveling, baking, and spending time with friends, family, and her pets.

Christopher Smith

Christopher graduated from Western Washington University with a degree in Exercise Science, and is an ACE certified personal trainer. He is planning on more schooling, trying to decide between careers as a Paramedic or Occupational Therapist.

Christopher just moved to Seattle and enjoys spending his time exploring the city, playing all sports, relaxing with friends in local parks, and walking in the rain.

Andrew Wojcik

Andy graduated from Western Washington University in 2003 with a B.A. in History and an emphasis in Secondary Education.  While at WWU, he played and coached football. After graduation, Andy worked in the business world as an Account Manager in the tech industry until 2010, when he returned to school to complete prerequisite coursework in order to apply to a Doctorate program and become a Physical Therapist.

Andy was born in Alaska, but grew up in Puyallup. He has had family in Bothell since the early 1900′s. Andy and his wife Andrea are expecting their first child, a daughter in June of 2012.  Andy is starting his fifth year on the Bothell High School football coaching staff, primarily working with the Tight Ends.  When he has free time, he enjoys cooking, traveling, playing all sports, spending time outdoors, and relaxing with family, friends, and his dog Dexter.
